This place is tiny and I think they were under a little bit of construction. We went right before sunset, but the sun was so strong we almost needed all the blinds to be closed. So having this fantastic view was actually not that beneficial while we were having dinner. Maybe would be better for breakfast or lunch so the sun's not beating down on you. I had the crab stuffed mahi, which was actually delicious. The coconut shrimp were awesome too. The Mai Thai was delicious as well. Just disappointed that the ambience wasn't actually what I was hoping for.

We've been twice this week already. The food is always great. The servers are very professional and quick. I think from seating to leaving our first meal took 35 mins. This week I had the poke tacos which were amazing and the fish and chips which I love. My sister is a vegetarian so the tofu bowl was the winner for her. If you're going for dinner go early to go to the beach to watch the amazing sunset and see the turtles come in for the night. Great views of the ocean from the restaurant as well. This place is a must for any trip to Kauai.

Not sure why the ratings are so low for this place, I've been coming here since I was a kid and still love it! Even after becoming a pretentious NY foodie LOL Maybe it just depends on what you order. I'd go for the reliable lunch menu items, which have always been great to me. This time, I tried their nachos (super loaded! great post hike snack), ahi sandwich (wasabi aioli was awesome, fries were great), and a burger (classic). Also got a guava lemonade which was super refreshing. The ocean view really can't be beat on a nice day. Really, you gotta try this place!

Is it because we went in with low expectations based on all the "meh" reviews? Is it because we got a pitcher of guava margaritas so we are feeling nice? Or is it because the bar is filled with people having a damn fine time that never think to read, much less write a review? Probably all 3, but the facts are that we showed up at 3 on a Monday for happy hour and EVERYONE helped us promptly, our drinks were properly strong, our food was out quickly, and it was delicious. Not only are the waitstaff friendly and nice, they tag team the tables so that you are never left un-helped. MNF was on all over the joint and servers and bussers were blowing and going. We got a seat away from the windows up near the bar, but you could still see the water and feel the breeze. We drank the aforementioned pitcher of mango margaritas, and had two happy hour appetizers, the coconut shrimp and the tempura snow crab/ahi roll. Both were tasty, well priced for Kauai (ha!) and just enough food to leave us satisfied. I did see the nachos walk by, and I'm a little sad we didn't try those too bc I like to try EVERYTHING. We rode our FREE rental bikes (acquire near valet) down here from the Grand Hyatt, and I'm glad we did, bc it was both a fun beautiful ride and a much better meal than I expected (why is food on Kauai so crapola in general anyway? Have I been choosing the worst places or not drinking enough? Idk) If you bike here, do NOT bike along the ocean to get back to the Hyatt or you will go up a BFH. The map does not tell you about the hill. But trust. Go back out to the right of the restaurant and hit Poipu rd that way. Especially if you drank that pitcher of margaritas (5 stars is not bc this is a classy phenomenal establishment but because we were treated really well and the food was good for the price paid)

10/27/24 Stopped by Poipu simply to check out the beached turtles at the shore of Baby's Beach (I think that is what it's called because it's very shallow and protected by lava rocks on one side). I have always been curious about Brennecke's so Hubby & I decided to get a quick bite before heading back to our condo. We took a chance to walk in because we were quoted an hour wait if you wanted a seat overlooking the famous Poipu Beach. (Reservations are apparently highly recommended, it was somewhat of a "duh" moment for me). The lovely host suggested the bar (which was 1st come first serve). Score! Van was our server, friendly, cordial & attentive. Hubby ordered his chianti & I opted to get the Tempura Sushi for us to share. Surprisingly, the dish was ready in no time at all. The presentation on the tempura sushi was beautiful. In its usual fashion, wasabi and pickled ginger on the side accompanied the dish. It's perfect to share either as a main or an appetizer. It was tasty & savory, I liked the crispy fried exterior. Hubby's chianti is a bit light, medium bodied. There's free parking nearby, it can get very crowded in the summer months because it is also beach parking. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor accessible by stairs & elevator. There's a bar in the center & TVs play sports/news. There's a puka dog by stand on the first floor along with a merch/store that sell hats, shirts & other knick knacks. Short & sweet, great visit, would like to return to try other menu items & (note to self: make reservations), sit front & center to have the spectacular view of Poipu Beach.
